The "Dragon Ball Z" volumes you bought will just be duplicates of what is covered in the latter portion of the 3-in-1 series. It's confusing, but originally there was no "Dragon Ball Z" manga - all 42 volumes of the manga were just "Dragon Ball". But since the DBZ anime was so popular in the US, Viz decided to rebrand the later 2/3 of the mangaFor DBZ, if you can't watch it in full, only watch some of the best moments if you ever have time. Fwi, the Dragon Ball anime is packed with about as much filler as DBZ percentage wise. The manga is the best form of Toriyama's creation, for sure and you should read the whole thing, even going over the Dragon Ball portion.
